We just recently got back from a late fall vacation! You may think we're crazy to go on vacation in November, but it wasn't what we originally planned, that's for sure...
My husband and I started feeling the urge to go on a much-needed vacation this past May...for some reason (well, probably due to my pregnant nausea during the months of June and July!), we ended up in August with no vacation planned or taken. :(
We thought about going to South Padre Island (the closest beach to our landlocked home!) but I wasn't sure I was up for the whole beachy, sandy, watch-the-kids-like-hawks-near-the-ocean scenario, so we waited and got grumpier and more tired and frustrated at our inabiility to make a decision. We all really needed to get away and relax...
For the last few years, we have made a trek to the Ozark's--actually to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Well, after August came and went and September (with all those fall activities) arrived, we decided to just go back to our favorite place. We have been there twice before and always have a great time. Our housekeeping cabin is spacious, with a wrap around porch that overlooks a beautiful clear river that feeds into Spider Creek. Dh loves the fact that one of the best spots to practice his fly-fishing is literally, beneath the hill to our cabin! And this time everyone caught a fish, except for the two youngest (who didn't have the patience to sit quietly for more than a few minutes).

We went into "town" one day and had a nice time visiting the little shops and stores that are built into those picturesque Ozark hills...it is a good way to get your daily dose of exercise to go shopping in Eureka Springs--though I don't recommend it for a woman in her last trimester of pregnancy...I got too tired and ended up getting weepy and exhausted--and I didn't get any shopping done, either! :(
A while back, we discussed Eureka Springs on my favorite message board and I wasn't the only one who agreed that this is an ideal vacation spot for a big family or someday--when the kids are grown up--a romantic getaway !
We're so glad we were able to get away and enjoy some peaceful time in the Ozark's! Check back in the next few days for pictures and details about the side trip we made to Laura Ingalls Wilder's Rocky Ridge Farm.

Finally, as we approach Thanksgiving, I thank God for my family and for the means to get away and enjoy the beauty of God's creation together!
