I was driving home from a friend's house last month, running a bit late to get the girls to dance class. Needless to say, I was frazzled and feeling rushed. I was driving faster than normal--seven miles over the speed limit, to be exact (at least I thought I was)....yeah, I know, I was speeding....I shouldn't have been....

Well, come to find out, once the friendly police officer (yes, he was very kind) pulled me over, he told me that I was actually speeding 17 miles over the speed limit. You see, there is a small stretch on the road I was travelling--about a 1/4 of a mile-- where the speed limit drops 10 mph and then goes back up 10 mph and I didn't see it and well, as the young officer patiently explained, he was going to have to write me a ticket because they have this new program and can't give out warnings anymore. WAAAAAHHHH....I haven't gotten stopped by a policeman since 1992 when I was driving home from work at 1 a.m. and was weaving a bit because I was almost falling asleep from exhaustion!
So, today was the very LAST day I could go pay for my ticket--talk about procrastination...well, I made it to the courthouse. God was merciful; there was NO line...and the county clerk was very friendly and apologetic when she told me that my fine was $193!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO, THAT'S NOT A TYPO AND YES I AM YELLING!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After I wrote my check and hustled back to the van, I told the kids how much it had been and they were flabbergasted...I was not too excited to share this with dh, who has bravely resigned himself to the fact that he married a spendthrift....Well, he was actually pretty nice about it, though he joked and ribbed me a bit. In fact, he was still poking fun again before we prayed the Rosary when I finally lost it mentioned the fact that I still had no idea how much of our children's college fund he had spent on Texas/OU tickets when he and Paul went to the big game a few weeks ago...Well, that shut him up pretty darn quick. ;) Moral to the story? Time to slow down and remember to drive safely--I have precious cargo and there is never a need to speed--especially through small towns with speed traps!
