Last week we continued our Five in a Row studies by rowing Who Owns the Sun? The children were delighted with the book and it's message that no one owns the sun, the moon, the stars, the rain, the flowers.
The kids really enjoyed the illustrations in this book, so the next day we opened it and examined the artwork. Chbosky both wrote and illustrated her book and all at the ripe young age of fourteen-- amazing. The watercolors are beautifully done but very simple.
So, we all sat down and got out the watercolor paper and our palettes. It was a lot of fun and also a good exercise for the kids. They now realize that it takes time, perseverance and talent to paint a beautiful picture, no matter how deceptively simple it may seem....
